Aortitis is a pathologic term for the presence of inflammatory changes of the aortic wall, regardless of the underlying cause. Aortic wall inflammation may be infectious or more commonly noninfectious. Noninfectious aortitis occurs in large-vessel vasculitides such as Takayasu arteritis and giant cell arteritis (GCA).

Aortitisis a general term that refers to a broad category of infectious or noninfectious conditions in which there is abnormal inflammation of the aortic wall. These inflammatory conditions have different clinical and morphologic features and variable prognoses. Aortitis is the inflammation of the aortic wall and occurs most commonly due to an infective or autoimmune process. CT, MRI and PET scans all have functional diagnostic roles in aortitis. The gold standard of treatment for aortitis is glucocorticoids. CT technique CT is used for the assessment of aortic wall thickness and regularity, aortic diameter, mural calcifications and aortic branches. Bi-phasic CT is typically performed, including non-enhanced CT of the chest (40 mA, 100 kVp).

DNA amplification of biopsy tissue revealed Bartonella quintana, and Bartonella serologies were subsequently noted to be positive. The patient improved with prolonged doxycycline and rifabutin treatment. This case illustrates Abdominal aortitis on PET CT: A case report and review of the literature.pdf.

Aortitis refers to a general descriptor that involves a broad category of infectious and non-infectious conditions where there is inflammation (i.e. vasculitis) of the aortic wall.

Perivasculitis, a rim of soft tissue around a great vessel that is hypodense on CT (vessel wall edema; Fig. 95-3), can also be detected. CT can also assess aortic or aortic branch vessel stenoses. 2015-01-01 Among the signs of infective aortitis on CT are aortic wall thickening, periaortic fluid, a rapidly enlarging aneurysm, gas formation and air pockets and vertebral body destruction.

As with idiopathic aortitis associated with the rheumatic conditions mentioned above, isolated aortitis is believed to involve the ascending aorta most frequently. In recent years, some cases of chronic periaortitis have been recognized as part of a spectrum of disease known as IgG4‐related systemic disease ( 19 , 29 ).

When this artery becomes inflamed, the condition is known as aortitis. Aortitis can develop from three different circumstances: An underlying condition that causes inflammation, such as giant cell arteritis (GCA) Infection such as salmonella; Isolated aortitis, which has no underlying cause of the inflammation. 2021-01-07 · Data of all patients managed with aortitis (CT or 18 FDG PET) at the diagnosis of GCA in five hospitals from May 1998 and April 2019 were retrospectively collected. Clinical features were compared according to the presence of aortitis symptoms. The predictive factors of occurrence or aggravation of aortic structural abnormalities were investigated. 2015-03-24 · Aortitis was diagnosed on PET-CT scan performed because initial investigations raised the possibility of pancreatic pathology.

A multipronged approach that includes clinical, laboratory and radiological findings is needed in guiding the approach to patient treatment strategies. CT is an excellent tool in recognition and diagnosis of this Background: We aimed to assess the positivity, distribution, quantitative degree of vessel inflammation, and clinical characteristics of IgG4-related aortitis/periarteritis and periarteritis (IgG4-aortitis), and to examine the difference in these characteristics between cases with and without IgG4-aortitis, using fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) co-registered with contrast-enhanced CT (CECT).
